Multiple iTunes Account Answer

My post after the iCloud announcement got a lot of comments. Today Apple answered the question in their MobileMe transition FAQ post.

If I use different accounts for iTunes and MobileMe, can I merge them into a single account and use it with iCloud?

No. You cannot merge two accounts into one. However, you will be able to move your MobileMe account (yourname@me.com) to iCloud and, if you choose, you can continue to use a different iTunes account for store purchases and iTunes in the Cloud.

Works for me.

I wish you could just merge accounts, I had my phone replaced under warranty the other day and the usual restore didn't work as it usually did. I had a error that 17 apps could not be found so I had to log out of my current account, remember the old account details (now in 1password) and install the missing apps, thankfully the app data appeared once I had re downloaded the apps. Previously purchased really helped out with this.

After everyone linked to this FAQ today, I went and read it. Decided now was the time to move my Omnifocus sync off MobileMe and onto Omni Sync. Worked so easily it scared me. But I won't complain.

I'd suggest people start moving things off MobileMe now that are going to go away so they don't forget and get caught flat footed. It's way too easy to say "Oh I have plenty of time." Those become famous last words.

I've never understood why I couldn't merge my iTunes account email into my .Mac/MobileMe address.
